Tom DeLonge's Angels & Airwaves Preview New Album, Film Online
Although Blink-182 have reunited, DeLonge continues his work with A&A, releasing Love -- for free! -- on February 14, 2010.

Even though he's back to his old boner-joke self with Blink-182, Tom DeLonge still clearly has a thing for the grandiose, as evidenced by the recent events surrounding his other band, Angels & Airwaves.

On Friday (July 31), DeLonge released a trailer touting the third chapter in the ongoing A&A saga, a new album — and accompanying film — called Love, both of which are (somewhat appropriately) due on February 14, 2010.

In the three-minute trailer, we see shots of explosions, heavy artillery and civil-war soldiers — snippets from the "Love" film — interspersed with DeLonge positing about the power of Angels & Airwaves ("What I want to do with this band ... I want to change how music is made, I want to change how music is marketed, I want to change how music is delivered. I'm gonna do it.") and waxing intellectually about the band's new album ("If you really believe that you can see yourself differently, then you can affect the world around you. And if you can affect the world around you, you can affect the world itself.")

Or basically, it's like every Tom DeLonge interview from 2005-2007, when he would routinely call Angels "the greatest rock-and-roll revolution" and compared their live shows to "an ascension to heaven." He also spoke at length about a big-budget A&A film, which ended up becoming the behind-the-scenes documentary "Start the Machine," which was released on DVD last year.

And while all of that was pretty over-the-top, it appears that DeLonge & Company are looking to top all previous efforts with Love. In a recent interview with Billboard, DeLonge said the album would be released for free — thanks to, as the article put it, "corporate underwriting" — and was "the biggest release of my life, the pinnacle of creativity," likening it to Pink Floyd's The Wall in ambition and scope.

He also said that parts of "Machine" would be expanded into the feature length "Love" film, and that the film "tells a story of human life and destiny, but at the same time really makes usual moments of life extraordinary ... it's a circular narrative, where it kind of sums up the human race in a time capsule."

DeLonge has taken to promoting the project while on-stage with Blink-182, wearing a "Love" T-shirt during performances and decorating his amp with A&A's new logo, which borrows heavily from the Masonic Square and Compasses, and features the Latin phrase "et plumbum mundus per lumen," which translates into "and lead the world though light."

DeLonge did not respond to MTV News' request for comment on the Love project.
